Basic consumption in Watts shows the minimum consumption in your household. In everyday language, we call it “the home’s resting pulse”, i.e. the lowest level of consumption that you never go below.
The basic consumption allows you to keep track of whether consumption by the appliances that are always on (e.g. fridge, freezer) is increasing or falling. The basic consumption is shown down to every hour, and therefore it covers more than what others call “standby consumption”. For instance, when a fridge or freezer turns on and off (perhaps several times within an hour), this consumption is included in the hourly consumption but is clearly not standby consumption.
Most people associate “standby” with the consumption that some appliances have simply by being “ready” to be used, e.g. a flat-screen TV that is turned off using the remote control but not at the plug socket.
